The Real Price Of A Savile Row Suit
Let’s be honest, we’ve all gasped when we heard about the price of a Savile Row Suit. The price can vary quite a bit, with a Huntsman bespoke suit starting at £4,600 and a mere £6,600 at Edward Sexton. However, behind the price tag, there is a story of craftsmanship, tradition and economics that most people rarely see.
Who Makes Your Bespoke Suit?
Savile Row is renowned for producing the highest level of tailoring in the world, with every garment taking 60 to 80 hours of work by the Master Tailor.
The Master Tailor has a deep knowledge and expertise in all areas of garment making; fabric selection, pattern cutting, garment construction and client fittings. Taking anywhere from “4 to 6 years for those specialising in cutting” and “3 to 5 years for those specialising in coats” and “2-3 years for those specialising in trousers" according to the Savile Row Bespoke Association. To be a Master Tailor, all three specialities must be completed - a level of career commitment only seen in the medical field.
Although the Master Tailor may not carry out all the manual work on your garment, it should be completed under his guidance.
What You Can Expect To Pay?
The phrase, *“How long is a piece of string?” *comes to mind.

Cost Breakdown of a Savile Row Suit
As with any business, the operational realities are passed onto the consumer - the Mayfair postcode, the salary of the Master Tailor, undercutters, apprentices, administrative team, supply costs and insurance for the premises must all be considered.

A £5,000 suit is a luxury unattainable to most, suits are no longer a prerequisite to conduct business. Forcing the storied houses of Savile Row to look further afield for their clientele.
According to Huntsman, 70% of Savile Row’s revenue comes from international trunk shows.
